About El McInerney
I live in London, but I'm half Irish and half Belgian by birth – I blame this for my wine-drinking penchant and compulsive need to tell stories.
My love of fantasy began at the age of 9 when my father bought me The Hobbit as a Christmas present. At first, I thought a story about a man who lived in a hole was supremely ridiculous, but he insisted on reading it to me and my sister every night – soon winning over two eager young fans. Of course, he followed this feat with The Lord of the Rings, and thus my doom was written.
I graduated to books from the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms worlds, and then on to David Eddings, Robert Jordan, and Raymond E. Feist, along with many other great fantasy writers of the 1980s and 1990s. A little later, I found my way to the darker worlds and deep character work of Robin Hobb and George R.R. Martin.
My whole life, I dreamed of writing an epic fantasy series that combined my favourite elements of all these stories The Unraveling series is the product of a lifetime spent dreaming, writing, and developing my craft.
I've got a PhD in Spanish Literature and Cultural Studies from Trinity College Dublin, and a background as a martial artist, political activist, and musician. Now, my attention is fully devoted to words – those of others, which I edit, and of course, my own.
